Day 17/365: Tip of The Day – Make Your Own Buttermilk!

Hi friends! Today I come to you with some wisdom on buttermilk.

How annoying is it when you go to make a recipe and one of the ingredients is buttermilk. I am like who actually has a carton of fresh buttermilk in their fridge? I say this because I have bought buttermilk multiple times and almost every time I end up throwing the majority of it away after it sits in my fridge for a mont, whoops. And I bake A LOT, I would have to go out of my way to try and use up the remainder of the buttermilk.

So there is this magical tip on making your own buttermilk! This is a glorious revelation because you can make as much as you need in 5 MINUTES and… not waste anything! This has been one of the best things thatI have learned throughout my baking journey.

You combine one cup of milk with one tablespoon of lemon or white distilled vinegar, give it a stir and let it sit for 5 minutes. And you have yourself a cup of buttermilk! You can multiply or halve it to suit your needs!

Thanks for checking in!

Love, Tasman
